Strength in Weakness
2 Corinthians 12: 9-10
"And he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.' Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distress for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong."
I was alone in the early morning giving personal attention to the many flaws of the flesh and heart. The discomfort of my thoughts was soon elevated by the scope of wounds exhibited throughout the distress and discord of this weakened nation. Superimpose God's Word above the score of headlines, and I am reminded from Paul's testimony that for Christ's sake, elements of my weakness and discomfort may become worthy of strength because of and through Him. A study of studies reveals that over 400 million references to the subject of strength in weakness exist. Scripture alone records over 300 verses on the biblical principle that strength in weakness exists at the spiritual level. From selected readings, allow me to share six insights in support of those readings:
A believer should prayerfully remain steadfast in his/her godly perspective.
Understand that persecution for Godliness will happen.
Renew and abide with a divine outlook and eternal hope.
Allow God to use our weaknesses with confidence.
The moment we place our faith in Christ, we enter into spiritual warfare.
We are to follow Him from the heart using his gift of spiritual armor in prayer, study, and a call to ministry.
I don't know God's exact purpose for allowing hardship, but I know that when I am weak, I become strong in Christ. Let us pray: In obedience to your Son and Holy Spirit, Father God we acknowledge the range of discomfort considering our present national experience. Often we release our thoughts to secular remedies and notions, disregarding the biblical principles that exist for your greater glory and our good. Forgive us, heal us, then direct our mission to focus on the renewal of your scared land and the call upon all people to be a living testimony of divine glory in the life and care of Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior. Amen.
