Memorial Day
On this Memorial Day, we thank God for the sacrifices so many have made for the cause of freedom. All gave something — some gave all. We honor those who gave their lives and pray for all who persevere for peace in this world.
Freedom is like oxygen. It’s something we just have. Many will not understand how precious either is until they are at risk of being taken away. We live in freedom, because every generation has produced patriots willing to serve a cause greater than themselves. Help us remember the sacrifices of their loved ones with tears of pride and sorrow, knowing they did not die in vain but secured our freedoms for another generation. John 16:33 - “I have told you all this so that trusting me, you will be unshakable and assured, deeply in peace. In this world you will continue to experience difficulties. But take heart! I’ve conquered the world.” (MSG) Joshua 1:9 - "Strength! Courage! Don’t be afraid. Don’t get discouraged. God, your God, is with you every step you take." (MSG) Psalm 23:3-4, "True to your word, you let me catch my breath and send me in the right direction. Even when the way goes through Death Valley, I am not afraid when you walk at my side. Your trusty shepherd’s crook makes me feel secure." (MSG) John 15:13 - "This is the very best way to love. Put your life on the line for your friends." (MSG) Psalm 46:1 - "God is a safe place to hide, ready to help when we need him." (MSG) 1 Peter 5:7 - "God’s strong hand is on you. He will promote you at the right time. Live carefree before God, he is most careful with you." (MSG) Psalm 34:18 - "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." (NIV) Jeremiah 29:12 - “When you call on me, when you come and pray to me, I’ll listen." (MSG) Let us pray:
Great God, we pray the truth of the Scriptures above for our nation, our military, and their families. Father, we ask you to forgive the sins of this nation. For all who have forgotten to pray, have mercy on us and bring us to repentance. Forgive our pride as a nation, and deliver us from evil. You alone are our righteousness and worthy of praise. Teach us to trust in your presence and never-failing love. You said, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.”
We fall on our knees and pray. In the name of the One who also died for our freedom, our King Jesus, mighty warrior and Prince of Peace. All glory and power is yours forever. Amen. God Bless America!
