His Compassions Never Fail
Lamentations 3:22-26 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore, I will wait for him. The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.”
I have strayed from the reading in the Daily Lectionary because the reading from Sarah Young’s “Jesus Calling” really spoke to me today. Paraphrased, it says that as you look into the day ahead, you see many choice-points along the way. The myriad possibilities these choices present can confuse you. Draw back to the threshold of the day where I (Jesus) stand beside you, lovingly preparing you for what is ahead. You must make your choices one at a time, since each is contingent upon the decision that precedes it.
…Focus on my loving presence… I will equip you as you go… Trust me to supply what you need when you need it.
Let us pray: God, thank you that you order our steps even amidst the chaos of the world. Help us to keep our eyes on you, to ask for your guidance. Even when I don’t hear a clear answer, I will keep listening. I will wait for you to lead me. I will take small steps and move toward the things that I know are of you. And when I hear more clearly, I will move swiftly, following you. Amen.
