Devote Yourself to Prayer

Colossians 4:2-6

"Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with thanksgiving. At the same time pray for us as well that God will open to us a door for the word, that we may declare the mystery of Christ, for which I am in prison, so that I may reveal it clearly, as I should. Conduct yourselves wisely toward outsiders, making the most of the time. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” This is the reading for today in the Daily Lectionary. As short as it is, it is packed with wisdom for today’s living. Spend time in prayer for yourself and your situation. Be thankful. Then pray for the advancement of God’s word. He can open a door. We must be aware of those around us and conduct ourselves wisely. This is an opportune time to have conversations about what God is doing and how He could be using this time to call his children back into the family of God. Let us pray: God, may we be thankful even in these times, knowing that you make good out of all things for those who love and serve you. Just as Paul reached out by letter from prison to deliver a message of hope to many people, help us use our new ways of communication to reach out to people. Open the doors of our prison, so that we may reach out to a hurting world with your message of love. Amen
