S.M.A.C.K. stands for Super
Mega Awesome
Christian Kids
and is for fourth graders to high-schoolers.
We meet on every Wednesday evening from
7:00 to 8:30 at the Church of the Holy Spirit.
Our typical meeting includes sharing a meal, one
or two ice-breaker type activities (worship,
games, etc.), a prepared teaching, time for
discussion and sharing, and a time of closing
prayer.
After the teaching, we break into
separate age-appropriate discussion groups.
Our teachers teach in the areas of
relationships, healing, peace-making and
gifting. The children have been blessed to
participate in some awesome role playing, as
well as experience worship expressed through
flags and mime and dance.
In addition to
our weekly meetings this past year, we also
attended "Rock The Universe" at Universal
Studios as a group. Ten or twelve of our
older Smacksters attended Youth
Quake (at Christian Retreat in Bradenton) where
all of us ministered together as we were touched
by the Holy Spirit.
Looking ahead,
S.M.A.C.K. plans to have involvement
in the Diocesan Youth Ministries of New
Beginnings (for middle-schoolers) and Happening
(for high-schoolers), to have various
non-meeting type activities such as a sleep-over
/ retreat, trip(s) to the beach, to do some fund
raising activities, and to do some mission work
and outreaches, and to continue our focus on
building community with each other within the
body of Christ, that is Church of the Holy
Spirit.
We give much thanks and gratitude
to our Smackster parents who
assist and facilitate in the building of this
ministry for our children. We always have
room for any others who want to help !
